The show must go on, and that was the case for the Arab Shrine Circus at the Kansas Expocentre on Sunday after a power outage struck the facility, along with nearly 1,300 people in central Topeka.
The first half of the circus was performed with emergency power, said Kansas Expocentre general manager H.R. Cook.
"We had one PA, one spotlight and 4,000 winky-blinky light toys," Cook said via telephone.
The second performance of the day started at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The power outage occurred at 4 p.m. because of lightning, said Nick Bundy, spokesman for Westar Energy.
