Michelle Baker, Authorities say the driver has engaged in Marietta, after seeing media coverage of a fatal hit-and-run along a road in Smyrna. Authorities had been searching for suspects in hit-and-death run of a man killed while walking with his son. Police said 48-year-old Tony Kuykendall was walking with his son on Saturday night 14 years when he was hit. He was taken to Kennestone Hospital where he died.
A spokesman for police said the suspect, 31, Jeffery Brookshire, said he decided to appear on Monday after seeing media coverage of the accident. “Right now all he has told investigators he remembered was hitting something,” Smyrna police officer Michael Smith told Channel 2 Action News.
Authorities say the boy was not hurt.
“I can not understand it,” said the mother of the brother-sister Michelle Baker. “I can not understand how someone can do something so horrible.”
Smyrna Police said a driver hit-and-run that killed a father of four children went to the authorities.
Police said Jeffery Brookshire told them he remembers hitting “something” on Saturday night.
Channel 2 Action News has learned that Brookshire has a history of driving offenses.
Tony Kuykendall walked on Old Concord Road in Smyrna with her 14-year-old son when he was struck.
“We did not see no lights or anything,” the victim’s son, Oscar Ortiz told Channel 2 Action News reporter George Howell. “Because if we did, we would have got further from the road.”
Kuykendall died at Kennestone Hospital.
Ortiz told Howell that Kuykendall was hit from behind. The car is on the verge of hitting Ortiz, too.
“A car came and hit him and flew him right there,” Ortiz said. “And then I called 911. Only one person has ceased. No one else helped until the cops came.”
“His father had told him moments before:” You have inside because if a car passes and hits one of us, I want to be me, “sister-brother Kuykendall said Michelle Baker. “I do not want this to you.”
Kuykendall family said the father of four children is currently unemployed and has no insurance. They have established a fund on behalf of Tony’s Kuykendall. Donations can be made at any Bank of America.
